How to Play Pictionary: Step-by-Step Guide

Step #1: Gather Your Supplies

Before playing Pictionary, make sure you have all the essentials. You’ll need the following:

Pictionary board game
Pictionary cards
Paper and a pen for each player
A timer (optional)

Step #2: Divide into Teams and Choose a Player to Go First

Determine how many teams you’d like to have and how many players should be on each team. Each team should have at least two players, and no teams should have more than four players.

Once the teams have been set, choose one player from each team to start the game.

Step #3: Draw the Card and Decide How Much Time to Set the Timer For

The player who was chosen to start the game will draw a card and place it in the cardholder. The card should not be read aloud or revealed to the other players.

Once the card is in place, decide how long the team has to figure out the word. A typical amount of time is one minute, but you can adjust the time depending on the difficulty of the word.

Step #4: Start the Timer and Begin Drawing

Once the timer is set, the player who drew the card should start drawing. The team has one minute to guess the word, so the drawing should be as simple and clear as possible.

Step #5: Guess the Word!

The player who is not drawing should begin guessing the word. The team must figure out the word before the timer runs out. If the team guesses the word correctly, they receive a point.

Step #6: Pass the Drawing Piece and Cardholder to the Next Player

Once the team has guessed the word correctly or the timer runs out, the drawing piece and cardholder should be passed to the next player on the same team.

Step #7: Repeat the Process Until the End of the Game

Each team should take turns drawing and guessing. The game ends when all of the cards have been used. The team with the most points at the end of the game is the winner!
